When I click an icon for mcafee anti virus( security center), it first gives a waiting sign and the sign later disppears without opening of the programme on the screen?? or some times it opens for short time and disppears. the same things happeing with other mcafee icons.

If you have that problem with "McAfee" antivirus, uninstall then reinstall the program. If you have that problem with all the programs, restore the "explorer.exe" file from your "Windows" installation disk and replace the old one on your hard-drive. If this doesn't solve your problems, restore the registry using a backup copy made when your system was working well.

I think going on what you have written above, it sounds like McAfee is being stupid, which could have resulted from a bad install, if you have bought the product from the shops, ring them and ask what to do, if it's a download call the McAfee service center. If it's a dodgy (limewire or bittorrent) either try a different torrent or a product with a better name: symantec endpoint protection XP/Vista capable (http://thepiratebay.org/) and search.
It could be installed incorrectly - try another antivirus program. Also, if there is anyone you can contact regarding the Mcafee, you can try that.
You'll probably need to reinstall it...either the shortcuts aren't pointing to the right area or the program is already running and clicking on the icon is just restarting it. Check the taskbar for the icon, if its there right click and select open center.....if not there, check task manager for anything mcafee related and end the process tree....then try to open the program again....if its still doesn't work reinstall.
