I paid like $60 for the most useless piece of antivirus there is! I keep getting errors from norton, i go to their website to fix the problem and it NEVER works! What else is there?!?!? im so frustrated right now i could throw my computer off my roof!!!!!

The highest rated free one is Kaspersky. AVG free is also well respected by the user community. As far as paid subscriber, I recommend PC-Cillin from Trend Micro. It is light on the system resources and very effective. To remove Norton, you will need to right click the Icon on the taskbar and disable before you can go into the Control Panel and run a remove.

There r tweaks u can make to the application so it's not a constant pain. I know what u r talking about when it's always alerting u about this and that or something, it can be a real pain in the caboose. U need to open the settings for norton and eyeball'em real good, read them all and understand what everything means. For now sounds like u need to turn off some of the things it does like minitor ur registry and turn off some of the alerts, look for these in ur settings.

Assuming you used Adaware and Spybot and Avast, there really is nothing else to do other than wipe out the computer. Then get a FireFox or Safari browser as it will stop the spyware and junk.

Are you logged onto your computer as an administrator. To check, go to your start menu, select control panel and then select user accounts. Look at the accounts you have setup and check that the one you are logged onto is an administrator account. It will say underneath the name of the acount.

It's not you or nor your computer settings it's on MIgente/Blackplanet. They made a mistake updating their servers like 1-2 weeks ago. I did send them several emails but they don't reply nor fix the problem.

The interesting thing is you can PING the page and nothing gets lost so I'm not sure what it is they did wrong.

To have activated any automated process you must have hit the "Function" key and another key to have enabled that process ... try thinking of what it was you were typing and which key you may have hit at the same time as the Fn key .... or try doing a system restore ... that may be a quick and dirty fix around your problem

It could also just be a coincidence and the grinding noise is dirt or something caught in your cooling fan ... it's overheating and shutting down ... that may well need a technician to look at it

You need a firewall. An anti-virus is NOT a firewall. They are 2 very different animals! Your AVG is not a "system", it is a simple anti-virus.

The two programs do different things, windows will work with AVG to insure that it is up to date and AVG will work with windows to make sure there are no redundant services running.

No, its not normal. Its only normal if you use P2P software or BitTorrent. If you don't then some one is trying 2 gain access through an open port. Make sure u have no open ports!!!
Personally McAfee isn't that bad for protection, it is free compared to how much it really costs (sometimes best buy does it have it also free)

Try talking to a lawyer who will give you a free initial consultation.

If someone helped you get SSD and SSI in the first place, you should be able to go back to them and explain the situation.

Most attorneys do not charge a fee until they win as someone stated before, but it sounds like you are already getting benefits because you said you were having trouble with checks...so if you already have the benefits, try the lawyer you spoke with to get the benefits.

If you did not have help from an attorney, find one who specializes in SSD and SSI (this can be hard) and see if they can help you. They may be willing to just help you out with this "pro bono" or for free if you explain your situation.

You might be able to ping the site, then enter the IP address for the site. do this by going to "run", and type in "cmd". when it pops up, type "ping", a space, then the URL of the site you want. a number with decimals should come up. enter that number into the address bar.

You may also be able to try using a proxy. try going to www.esconda.com. it may work. you can also search for proxy server lists on the internet. find one, then to to the Internet Options. (in tools, at the top). go to the connections tab. click LAN settings. at the bottom, type in the IP address, (those decimal numbers again) and the port number, which will most likely be something like 80, or 8080. click ok. then proceed to your site.

None of that is guaranteed, some blocking systems are very good at not letting you in. in that case, you're out of luck.

If I am understanding you correctly, and you are saying that your SECURITY PROGRAM is giving you a message, then you should listen to it and debug your program. Some of these bugs can actually empty money from your bank accounts, if you do online banking. Take these bugs seriously; some bugs can only hurt your computer, but some of the nastier ones can hurt YOU!

If you have that problem with "McAfee" antivirus, uninstall then reinstall the program. If you have that problem with all the programs, restore the "explorer.exe" file from your "Windows" installation disk and replace the old one on your hard-drive. I think going on what you have written above, it sounds like McAfee is being stupid, which could have resulted from a bad install, if you have bought the product from the shops, ring them and ask what to do, if it's a download call the McAfee service center. If it's a dodgy (limewire or bittorrent) either try a different torrent or a product with a better name: symantec endpoint protection XP/Vista capable (http://thepiratebay.org/) and search.
It could be installed incorrectly - try another antivirus program. Also, if there is anyone you can contact regarding the Mcafee, you can try that.
You'll probably need to reinstall it...either the shortcuts aren't pointing to the right area or the program is already running and clicking on the icon is just restarting it. Check the taskbar for the icon, if its there right click and select open center.....if not there, check task manager for anything mcafee related and end the process tree....then try to open the program again....if its still doesn't work reinstall.

yeah anything that isnt saved cannot be accessed after you have closed the application that it was in, although you should have a password on all of your accounts so if someone was to steal your computer they cant get in (there are ways around passwords if you are smart enough). Also if you are that worried you can make a "Zipped" Folder which will "Compress" (make smaller) the document and you can add a password if you want, so no one will be able to access the file except for anyone that has the password.

to make and password protect a file:

1 save a file (any file you want) to the desktop

2. right click on the desktop -%26gt; new -%26gt; click "Compressed (zipped) folder"

3 name the zipped folder (To what ever you want)

4 Move the file you made in step 1 to the zipped folder you just made (Do this by clicking on and holding the file you want then drag it ontop of the zipped folder)

The file will move from the desktop to the zipped folder

Well you know how schools won't let you on certain website? How do you get around that? I'm only asking because a lot of times my teacher gives us free time on the computer for like 40 or more minutes, but we really don't have no website we can go on. Open Task Manager to find out which process is grabbing cpu resource. Try disabling that process and observe cpu utilization. If it goes down to %26lt;3% level, you got the culprit. Disable it permanently by running msconfig.

If this does not work, your PC may have a virus. Scan in SAFE mode.

For a start get a decent anti-virus program Norton is one of the worst and it slows your PC down. I use AVG and it has never given me a problem.

Not sure what security you are using - but it sounds like the Firewall is blocking access - you should be able to go to your firewall settings and make an exception for Windows Live

It might be problem with your firewall preventing you accessing it ,as it may not be on your allowed list to access the internet and the firewall has prevented it doing so because of this . Try temperarlly taking the firewall off and signing in . You need all of them. They are the periodic fixes that Microsoft sends out when they find program errors in Windows and also fixes for security errors they find. If they find out that hackers have found for example a backdoor into your system through a certain port, they will send out a hot fix to block the backdoor so to speak and protect your system. I wouldn't uninstall any of them.

At both school and work they force me to invent these complex passwords which periodically expire and I have to invent new ones.

You mite want to do hijackthis and delete the stuff that doesn't need to be there, Becarefull using hijackthis because not all the stuff in it is bad, but it sounds like you probable have some toolbars and stuff like that running in your browser. Ok, either the sites you're surfing is lagging because there's to many other people surfing it at the same time as you. OR you have a very slow internet service. Internet speed does not matter by your computer, it matter if its fast. i just bought my computer and its x 2 processor 4gb of ram, and whenever i go to my sister house the internet is always slow ( same situation like yours) but when i use the internet i have at home ( which is 500kb/s) i can do anything with it.

I had the same problem. If you have a router, then you need to turn off the router for about a day. After that is done it should be faster. Then you go to control panel %26gt; network connections%26gt;then you should see your network or internet in that window. Double click on that and another window will pop up telling you about the connection, then you should go to the support tab, and click repair, if there are any problems it should reapir it than it'll be better.

You most likely have it set to ask for permission before you change to a page with a different security level. In IE go to Tools...Internet Options....Security Settings....scroll down through the settings until you find the one for changing between security levels. On the TOOL menu of your computer click on INTERNET OPTIONS and click ADVANCED to check the appropriate box for activex control or you may check box that says PLAY ANIMATION/video IN WEB PAGES. Without it you cannot view slide or watch/visit some Macromedia flash sites. Good luck

I don't really understand you question. You must supply a user id and password for everything . Security is exactly the reason. Your computer don't know anything about passwords and IDs, only you know them.

I have one suggestion. Download and install McAfee free SiteAdvisor for Internet Explorer and if you also use Firefox, you should install that version too. I use both versions. Google for them or search for them at www.download.com. But you will have to put up with their ads to ask you to install the full version everytime you put your cursors on the buttons to read the safety ratings for the sites shown. Red button sites are dangerous, green okay, yellow,tread with caution, grey with question marks means untested sites, etc. If you go direct to websites by typing the URLs, the SiteAdvisor box on the toolbars will also change colours depending on the safety ratings of the sites. .. I am serious when I say that your next task should be to uninstall Norton completely and install either AVG or Avast for free.

Norton just has too much going on and tries to literally take control of your computer. It will run very slow.

Click on the more info link when the alert comes up to get info about where the attack (IP address) is coming from. I used to get these all the time and traced it down to a false alarm. Try a LiveUpdate first to make sure it's not something they've fixed. Mine just stopped showing alerts, as I think they found the problem and fixed it.

Start IE7 and go to Youtube,have a look at the top of the screen and see if a yellow bar appears saying "Internet Explorer has stopped running this program on your computer".The messages can be slightly different depending on your system - anyway click this bar and click (allow/use this file/download).etc.

I would suggest you invest in a version of McAfee that includes total protection (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) and ensure it is properly configured and kept completely up to date.

You will also want to ensure that windows updates are completely current and that it is configured to automatically download and install updates.

I strongly doubt you are being "hacked". It is far more likely that you are being infected with malware.

If your email accounts have been compromised then you should secure them after you've installed proper security and scanned for and removed all threats. Changing a password on an infected system only lets the criminals know your new password.

I would also suggest you NOT save passwords within your browser any more.

If you have important documents you may also want to invest in an encryption program like PGP.

Your Security and Privacy levels may be set too high in Internet Exploder (hehe). Click on Tools in your browser, check the to see if the settings on Security and Privacy are set too high and on the Advanced tab click the Restore Advanced Settings tab and click OK. Hope this helps.
Based on my experience with my new computer, if you're using IE it will be pretty much impossible to get flash player to work. I switched to firefox and that was the end of my flash player problems.

The best way is to get a wireless router. You can get them from about $35 - $200. You'll hook your PC up to the router with an ethernet cable, which should come with the router you purchase. And you should be able to hook up your laptop wirelessly. Most laptops nowadays come with what they call a wireless adaptor installed by the factory. This adaptor allows you to hook up to the internet through your wireless router. If your laptop is old, you might have to buy a wireless adaptor, but I doubt you'll have to do that.

By the way, make sure your laptop and the router have the same wireless standard. There's 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n. The router will say it right on the box. And it's probably written somewhere on the bottom of your laptop.

These happen to me all the time, they are considered the lowest risk threat, barely even a threat at that, i find i get them from adverts, if your anti-virus software tells you the URL where you picked it up i suggest blocking all cookies from that URL (in internet explorer: tools %26gt; internet options %26gt; privacy %26gt; sites then type in the URL and press block)

what u need is an all in one pc tuneup utility like auslogics boostspeed. try the trial version and run the various optimization programs. if you think u have a virus, download free or trial version of kaspersky,bitdefender or NOD32 and scan.if not , ur norton is safe.
close the unwanted programs on the bottom right of the screen, they eat ur RAM
Get rid of Norton, and install any/all of the following:

AVG Free Edition, Avast Free Edition, Avira Antivir Free Edition.

Run it/them to check for viruses. Then download Adaware (by Lavasoft) and Yahoo Anti-Spy. Run them both to check for spyware/adware. I would suggest Spyware Search and Destroy but that tends to use a lot of system resources.

Also, check to see how many items are in your startup list under start, all programs, startup items. Or something similar to that, I forget exactly what the folder is called. You could have a bunch of processes and programs running in the background that you don't know about. Make sure any programs you aren't using are closed. They could be hiding in the System Tray.
If you had a virus Norton would have found it, you should do a disk error check and disk defragmenter to improve your pc's performance.
Reduce the number of items on your startup list. Uninstall all unwanted programs and remove junk from the drive. Have enough free space at all times. If its overloaded and cluttered with fragments, everything including startup will take ages. Fragmentation is a disease which debilitates drive and PC performance in general.

How much RAM do you have? Atleast 1 GB is good if you have a lot of programs running.

Switch to AVG if Norton is slowing things down.
After using a computer for a while, installing and uninstalling programs, creating and deleting items your operating system and hard drive can get clustered.

I would recommend reformatting your hard drive and installing a clean copy of your operating system, I do this about once a year.

If that's not an option I would recommend de-fragmenting your hard drive about once a month.

You probably have a bunch of programs (or spyware) running in the background. You could try downloading free spyware removers like Ad-Aware, or stop certain programs from running at startup by using msconfig ("Start"%26gt;"Run"%26gt;cmd%26gt;msconfig"). According to me, I have been using computers from the past 5 years, and have use almost 70% of the current antivirus programs, among most of them, pretend to detect n remove viruses, but I dont know I got attracted to Norton Antivirus. Till 2004 Norton was slow it slows down your pc, it slows mine too, but it gave a good security to me, and now after the 2005 versions the program is faster and has more security.

I asked a question here last week, but only got one answer back %26 it didn't help. I'm on Yahoo DSL %26 connect to the Internet with no problem. But When I go to a screen where you have to sign in (Mail, bank, etc.) it goes to screen cannot be displayed. The only way I found to go to these screens was to do a system restore %26 take my comp. back about a month. Then I'm fine but the next day I have the same problem again. I ran a virus check with McAfee security %26 it said I had no viruses. I also have Windows Defender which I use weekly %26 I run Adaware weekly. I've tried deleting my temp. files %26 history then doing a restart at the suggestion of the person that answered my last question but didn't help the issue. Let's assume that doesn't help the problem, please note that not all the time An Anti Virus program may detect spyware. or virsues.

In this case I don't believe you have a virus. Rather, you have a spyware. If you allow your kids to download free stuffs off the Internet, chances are that you are infected with spyware.

Let me provide you few steps.

1 Click on tools located to the upper right of IE7 and select Internet options. Click on delete. Then click ( delete all) Close that box, then click ok at the bottom and close IE7.
