Why does my computer restart every now and then at various time intervals?

I m using a P4 with 512 MB RAM. I even have recently changed the power supply. There is hopefully no virus as I am using PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 with virus definitions updated everyday! Pls help this thing is really annoying. I have a feeling that th problem could be in the RAM but am not sure how I can solve this. The system restarts irregularly. Sometimes in a few minutes on start and sometimes after hours. The frequency is increasing as days go by.

Is sounds like something in the hardware (physical parts of the computer), NOT the software (viruses, etc.)

It *may* be a temperature thing. is your chip fan spinning? Get SpeedFan, which is a 100% free Temperature monitoring program, at http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php (click on Speedfan 4.29 in the 2nd paragraph to download, but you can read about it first)

Also, check the "Event Viewer" by going to Start -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; Administrative Tools -%26gt; Event Viewer. It will open up Windows' Event Viewer and you can check in System or Application to see if anything malfunctioned (indicated by a red X) right before your last restart.

Hope this helps!
